This project focused on developing an initial concept into a viable business idea. The course provided a strong theoretical foundation while also requiring significant independent work. We learned to use the Business Model Canvas and formulate hypotheses to guide our work.
My primary focus was on revenue streams, as this business idea is based on balancing marketing opportunities with the provision of free menstrual products. A key challenge was establishing connections with companies—both as potential investors and as partners for product manufacturing. Our solution involved calculating the marketing value we could offer to companies and translating that into the quantity of menstrual products we could provide to students for free. It is important to note that the goal was not to generate profit but to reach a break-even point.
We planned to launch in Umeå as a pilot project before expanding to the rest of Sweden.
As a result, we designed a model where menstrual products could be made available in 100 toilets across Umeå University, covering approximately 40% of all toilets in the facilities. Additionally, we were to install three vending machines, where students could access a maximum of two packages per month, each containing 10 menstrual products.
